CAP-INO Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Applied PhotonicsThe objective of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions in applied photonics. This prize is intended to acknowledge innovative applications of photonics to solve practical problems, leading to economic benefits (for example, the development of a new instrument based on photonics, devices that accomplish new functions, etc.). The innovation must be commercializable or, at the least, exploitable. The National Optics Institute (INO) and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) introduced this biennial joint medal in 1998. The nominee must have spent the major part (i.e more than half) of his/her working career in Canada or must have madea major contribution to applied photonics after returning to a permanent position in Canada.
The 2008 Medal - Jacques Beaulieu, retired The next medal will be awarded in the year 2010. Deadline for nominations is January 15, 2010. Nominees must be a member in good standing of the CAP or a Council/INO-approved Canadian professional science society (see list). NEW - Effective 2007 November 22, nominations for the CAP medals will be accepted through our secure, online submission site. The medal guidelines, including a list of documentation required in support of the nomination, can be viewed by clicking here. Please note that nominators can create a nomination and return at a later date to add the required documentation as it becomes available. The nomination will only be considered submitted once all of the required documentation has been supplied. Nominators must be a member in good standing of the CAP.
