In an effort to increase the participation of theoretical physics students at the CAP Congress, and to increase the visibility of the Division of Theoretical Physics, we would like to hold a competition for best DTP student presentation at the annual congress this June in Winnipeg, along the lines of the best overall student contribution competition held anually. Such a division-specific student competition was held for example, by the Particle Physics Division last year.
We envisage a maximum of 8 to 10 presentations of 20 minutes each; the competition will be held on Sunday afternoon (prior to the public plenary session). The presentations will be judged according to both quality of the research and of the presentation by an eminent panel of Canadian theorists! We will award cash prizes of $200 to the winner, $100 to second and $50 to third place.
Please encourage your student(s) to submit a contribution in the form of a title, abstract and a one page summary of the research to be presented directly to: paranj@lps.umontreal.ca
The deadline for applications is March 15th, 2004. If necessary, we will select a short list from those applications received; others will be encouraged to present a poster.
Thank you very much
