2004 Congress, June 13-16

The Canadian Association of Physicists has established these awards to recognize student members giving the best research paper presentations at the annual CAP Congress. Up to three awards, each consisting of a certificate of recognition and a prize of $300, will be made each year.

Eligibility, selection procedure, and selection criteria:
1. the student presenting the paper must be a registered participant at the Congress;
2. the student must be solely responsible for the presentation;
3. the student presenting the paper must be the first author;
4. the student should officially enter the competition at the time of submission of the regular abstract; i.e. by 2004 March 8, and should submit an extended summary of the paper (3-4 pages) to Dr. Morrow, Program Chairman, 2004 CAP Congress (c/o carmen@physics.uottawa.ca), Canadian Association of Physicists, 150 Louis Pasteur, Suite 112, McDonald Bldg., Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 6N5, by the 12th of March (at the latest);
5. as the extended summaries submitted by the winners will be published in the July/August issue of Physics in Canada, the extended summary must be an original paper which has not been submitted to another journal for publication. A statement to this effect must accompany the summary submission;
6. the paper may be submitted in English or French;
7. 8 papers will be pre-selected (based on a review of the extended summaries) for oral presentation at the Congress;
8. oral presentations of the pre-selected papers will be given in a separate session which will be open to all Congress participants;
9. presenters will be judged on delivery, content, and ability to respond to questions and discussion.
