Dr. Carswell has spent almost five decades working in both university and industry on the development of lasers and laser-based systems.  His career covers applications ranging from the depths of the oceans to the surface of Mars and he has participated in the evolution of the laser from its inception to its current position as an integral part of modern science and society.
